Wedding Photography at Gara Rock

Synchronicity. How I love when all the stars align – like these two meeting. I adore hearing your stories from when you first met and then to capture the celebration of that love. It’s such a privilege to hear the accounts that are retold during the speeches and to see your personalities shine together.

It all started at Gara Rock Hotel on a super frosty December day. Having officially got married the year before, with a small ceremony in London, this was the big one with family and friends coming together from all over the world. Most notably Lydia’s sister from Australia who led the beautiful laughter and tear filled ceremony. There were understated festive touches and the hundreds of candles lit during the meal added to the cosy romance. Also who could not be wowed by Lydia’s KYHA Studios dress? These two looked every bit as beautiful on the outside as they are in soul.

This wedding felt extra special as I have been lucky enough to photograph many of Lydia & Henry’s friend’s weddings. It’s almost an annual event now and it felt like I knew at least 50% of the wedding crowd. I also knew that these are some of the kindest and most fun people to have a party with. They are so genuine, warm and full of energy.

Henry is a photographer and photographers know the deal with light and time and why I might suggest doing things in what seems an unusual way. Winter weddings mean the light fades early so I was super stoked to know these guys were on board to get the family shots done before the sunset ceremony.  We lucked out with the most wonderful low winter sunshine and had so much fun shooting it all. All the rain that threatened kept at bay but provided some stunning ever shifting seascapes.

As I was compiling this post through the letterbox tumbled a card from Lydia & Henry. (Hello synchronicity again) It reads;

“Sorry for the delayed Thank you card, we’re finally back in London for a few days and have received your gorgeous photo memory box (10/10 packaging). Thank you again for being so great and capturing images that we will cherish forever. Your easy-going attitude and ability to capture some insane shots really helped to make our weekend so special. We will be singing your praises forevermore and look forward to catching up at the next Devon wedding, Love Lydia & Henry. “

L&H it was beyond a pleasure to shoot your weddingday#2 for you and definitely one I will never forget. xx

In the depths of mid winter I went to visit Rachel Snowdon at her home studio on Dartmoor. We discussed vulnerability and being a creative. Hitting on the imposter syndrome in an era of comparison online, being seen or unseen and pushing through anyway.  We talked about printmaking, art colleges, photography, folklore and history. We […]

Nothing quite beats a sunny wedding in Devon, even more so a September blue skies wedding day in Salcombe. The colour of the water. The circling seagulls. The salty tang to the air and the anticipation. Being a Devon wedding photographer means I am lucky enough to work in the most magical of natural settings […]
