Jen & Joel had the most poetic pagan wedding on Dartmoor on Samhain last year. It felt so in tune with nature and I definitely shot it with a true sense of awe and wonder. To me the photos feel like a love letter to Dartmoor and the ancient land Jen & Joel promised their union on. Jen & Joel – so humble and and kind. They truly tread lightly upon the earth and demand no fuss. It was spiritual, meaningful and uplifting to celebrate with them and their close family. There was a real gravity to what we did that day. My words will not do justice to the feeling we had in our hearts but I hope the poetry of my images will deliver to you, lovely reader, a small piece of what we all found at the edge of Wistman’s woods last halloween. As ever I am so grateful that universe really does allow me to cross paths with such beautiful souls and bear witness to their stories.
It feels particularly fitting to be writing this post at Imbolc. As we mark halfway from the winter solstice to the spring equinox. We all feel the shift in the seasons, the slightly longer days, the almost but not quite imperceptible changes to the light. It reminds me to continue to to use these colder months to rest, reflect and plan ahead. How lucky am I that my work really is in tune with the seasons? I am busiest at the height of summer, when our bodies naturally have more energy. In a world that can sometimes demand us to ‘perform and progress’ all year round, we must turn to nature and heed it’s quiet voice.
So February, I will lean into your stillness and hear your stirrings of spring, ready to rise up and burst forth with a flurry of fresh creative energy at the equinox.
