This festival style wedding at Beaconside House was easily one of the most eclectic and unique weddings I photographed last year. I knew it would be crazy cool and slightly bonkers as Emma and Matthew are not afraid to be their wonderful kooky selves. Emma has recently set up Best Day Ever Ceremonies and is a creative and quirky celebrant offering alternative wedding ceremonies and wedding planning; so it was guaranteed to be a day full of personality, DIY and lots of fun! From the David Bowie meets pink glitter and feathers themed marquee to the dream catchers and heart lined aisle in the woods, it was a complete mash up of all things Emma, Matthew and Tallulah… I completely fell in love with this little family. I loved watching all the children have as much fun as the adults – it was great that everyone got involved in the space hopper racing and tug of war. One of the highlights for me was meeting Gordon the ‘Red Pope??!’ who conducted the marriage ceremony. My exact words to him were “I don’t know what you are but you are ace!” Later on in the day one of my favourite moments was photographing Emma and Matthew at sunset overlooking the misty rolling Devon hills as the sky turned orange. There was a real feeling of the last warmth of Autumn and a celebration of the summer before the equinox and of new beginnings. I always love to shoot in the last of the day’s light, it makes everything beautiful and adds a stillness to the atmosphere. This wedding just had that little ‘je ne sais quoi’. This was reflected in how the cake had dolls on it dressed as Matthew, Emma and Tallulah, and had collapsed underneath them; but do you know what, it didn’t matter one bit, the whole day had a touch of perfect, beautiful chaos, not too structured, in no way formal and everyone had the BEST time!! xx
